Where to find Oat Milk in Vancouver

For a city that has an enormous focus on vegetarian options for food, it’s always surprised that so many people have asked me where to find Oat Milk in Vancouver

We’re spoiled with so many options of alt-milks though, with great brands like Nuez Milk and their magic blending of Almonds and Cashews, Aubade with their super secret recipe vegan milk (Edit – Aubade have Oat Milk in their blend now!) and KAHVE with “the best almond milk in the city” according to Mrs. VancouverCoffeeSnob.

But I feel like we’re turning a corner. Oat Milk is starting to take hold on the West Coast… finally.

So where can you find it and what can you find?

Nutmeg Barista Oat Mylk

What’s it like?

Abso-flippin-lutely delicious! Flavour-wise this particular milk is really great. It’s rich and creamy with some nice oaty flavours. There’s also barely any sugar in it compared to the others and only a handful of ingredients. The flip side of this is that it doesn’t last as long as the other brands and it separates almost instantly, so you have to keep stirring it.

Where can I buy it in a carton?

It’s actually not in cartons, it’s in bags! You take a frozen stick and defrost it. Right now though, it’s only for coffee shops and smooth talking bloggers that have an article on Oat milk!. Reach out to NutMeg Mylk if you think you’re as smooth as me!

For the last year, I’ve been working on a project called Siply

Siply is an app that enables you to find the best coffee shops in the city then get amazing deals on drinks. Simply put – you can’t get better prices on your drinks anywhere else than this app. I made a little calculator to prove this, have a play with it and see what you think:

Earths Own Barista Oat Milk

What’s it like?

A newcomer to the Oat Milk scene, this is a local company, it’s specifically designed for baristas and IT. IS. AWESOME. Out of all the taste tests we did, this one consistently come up on top, albeit much more oat-tasting than any other milk. I’d compare the steaming abilities to Pacific brand in that it’s almost indistinguishable from homo milk.

Fantastic to steam for things like Lattes and cappuccinos. It is very similar to regular whole milk.

This was slightly more difficult to steam than Pacific brand, but it beat them with a great balanced flavour.

So Fresh Oat Milk

Earths Own Oatmilk

What’s it like?

It’s actually not bad, for store-bought stuff. It’s not bad for steaming with, usually coming out a bit foamy rather than luxurious. Definitely worth a purchase if you can’t get the good stuff.

Where can I buy it in a carton?

Most supermarkets.

Matchstick

https://matchstickyvr.com

Whilst Matchstick doesn’t technically have an Oat Milk, they have an Oat/Hazelnut/Cashew mix, that gets an honourable nod here. Also, it comes at no extra cost!

Try it at any of their four locations across town (https://matchstickyvr.com for location info)

Are you a cafe/vendor that has Oat Milk? I want to know about you because I want to put you in the above list! Send me an email on [email protected]
