Where to find Oat Milk in Vancouver

Before I tell you where to find Oat Milk in Vancouver, I’d like to tell you a story.

I know what you’re thinking, “Oh God, this is going to be like one of those stupid recipe websites isn’t it?”

Yes. Yes it is.

About five or six or so years ago I was in the UK. Wales to be precise. Cardiff to be preciser. Little Man Coffee to be even more preciserer™.

Mrs. VancouverCoffeeSnob isn’t really one for dairy, so instead of a cow juice cortado, she chose this stuff called Oat Milk. We both expected it to be gross, but it turned out to be an absolute revelation.

Fast forward to about a year ago and Oatmilk EXPLODED across the coffee scene. This is quite annoying because we were seriously considering becoming an importer at one point!

Anyway, it’s now become a kind of a huge deal over here, with most shops serving it. We’ve even seen some shops, such as Paragon Tea Room, shift to 99% using Oat Milk in their drinks.

Over the last year or so something odd has happened. I’ve sort of become this weird unofficial Oat Milk expert. I mean FFS I was interviewed by CBC Radio on the subject. You can listen to the whole segment here.

So I wrote this list to help you all to know what kind of Oat Milks there are out there and where to get them.

Earths Own Barista Oat Milk

Where to find Oat Milk in Vancouver

What’s it like?

What’s great about Earth’s Own are they’re a local company, the milk is specifically designed for baristas, it’s made at huge scale (meaning you’ll never struggle to find it) and IT. IS. AWESOME. Out of all the taste tests we did, this one consistently came up on top, albeit much more oat-tasting than any other milk. I’d compare the steaming abilities to Pacific brand in that it’s almost indistinguishable from homo milk.

Nutmeg Barista Oat Mylk

Oat milk and bottle on table with writing

What’s it like?

Abso-flippin-lutely delicious! Flavour-wise this particular milk is really great. It’s rich and creamy with some nice oaty flavours. Also, there is barely any sugar in it compared to the others as it has only a handful of ingredients. The flip side of this is that it doesn’t last as long as the other brands and it separates almost instantly, so you have to keep stirring it.

Where can I buy it in a carton?

It’s actually not in cartons, it’s in bags! You take a frozen stick and defrost it. Right now though, it’s only for coffee shops and smooth-talking bloggers that have an article on Oat milk!. Reach out to NutMeg Mylk if you think you’re as smooth as me!

What’s it like?

Fantastic to steam for things like Lattes and cappuccinos. It is very similar to regular whole milk.

Minor Figures Oat Milk

What’s it like?

Minor Figures is slightly more difficult to steam than Pacific brand, but it beat them with a great balanced flavour.

Earths Own Non-Barista Oat Milk

Earths Own Oatmilk

What’s it like?

It’s actually not bad, for store-bought stuff. The milk responds fairly well for steaming, usually coming out a bit foamy rather than luxurious. Definitely worth a purchase if you can’t get the barista grade stuff.

Where can I buy it in a carton?

Most supermarkets.
