Murmurings have been afoot in the world of Vancouver coffee with a new and exciting project in the works from the same crew that bought you some of the best latte art competitions the city has seen. In this article, we’re going to give a first look at Roaster Central from Espressotec, who are usually known for slinging some of the sexiest espresso machines in the city.

So what the hell is Roaster Central then?

Roaster Central is a huge line of Baratza Sette 270wi grinders that are set up so you can grind and brew a massive selection of Canadian coffee before deciding on what (if anything) you want to buy.

The idea is to give you a method of sampling multiple types of roasters split into different types of coffee ( Bright / Citrus, Fruit-forward, Rich / Sweet, Earth / Smoke, Decaf, Balanced  and Single Origin.) then you can either purchase what you like or be on your merry way with a belly of fresh coffee!

How does it work?

The process is that you chose three types of coffee, grind the beans using the presets on the Sette grinder (I have one at home and it’s amazing), then brew it up using a Bonavita temperature controlled kettle and a Hario V60.

For extra fanciness, Espressotec had custom built serving trays made by Reg Barber to hold your cups!

There are nifty guides that take you through the exact process required to channel your inner barista for this, but you’ll be working at an advantage if you have A) done this before and/or B) have a man bun (even if you’re a woman… go work out how to do that). Then you can make notes on their adorable comment cards!

What can I drink?

Quite honestly – a metric crapload of unbelievable coffee! Pictures are better than words here. These are a few of the options available, which will be constantly changing.
